the battle will be presented and tours of the field will leave from the Gathland pavilion every 15 mins . Last tour starts at 10 pm. There is a small fee of $3 per person (12 and under are free). 140th Anniversary Ceremony - Dedication of Interpretative Signs at Gathland 2 pm. A dedication of the Blue & Grey Education society's interpretive markers for the South Mountain State Battlefield.

Guided Candlelight Tour at Antietam's 140th Commeration Anniversary Event Sept 14th.

Townsend Exhibit The exhibit will be late in opening, but will be well worth the wait.  It should be ready by the 15th of August or earlier.  Watch the paper for a press release.  The pictures and letters portray Townsend and his family in a very personal way.  Call the museum at (301) 371- 4575 for information.

This newsletter is a publication of The Friends of South Mountain State Battlefield, Inc.  Its intent and use is solely to promote South Mountain State Battlefield, which is part of the State Forest and Park Service of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.  The Friends of South Mountain State Battlefield  are wholly separate from the Park Service.  The Dispatch is published quarterly.  The Newsletter deadline is 10 days prior to the first of the month for the next quarterly issue.  We welcome your submissions to the newsletter and reserve the right to edit and determine placement of all items submitted.
