organization, we also have a role to educate the neighbors of the State Battlefield, the general Maryland public, and Maryland public officials about the tremendous assets located on South Mountain. Many of our members are motivated by the desire to better honor and respect the historic Civil War battle that occured on South Mountain on September 14, 1862. We welcome new members to FSMSB and we especially welcome new nominations and applications for Board members or volunteers to docent in the Townsend or Civil War museums at Gathland. While we are optimistic about new State funding for DNR staff starting July 1, 2001, many of the educational and interpretive efforts will remain highly dependent on you, the volunteers who make it all happen. Please call Marjorie Thomas at (301) 371-8493 for more information about FSMSB or for a membership application. Membership dues are a bargain at $25 per year for families or individuals.
